“Good People” Association (Udruženje ”Dobri ljudi”) and the Valjevo “Youth Office”, in cooperation with Greentech Ltd. Novi Sad, plastics recycling company, executed a four-day environmental protection peer educator training. Training participants were able to acquire basic knowledge regarding the types of waste, waste recycling and its importance in environmental protection, energy efficiency, the greenhouse effect impacted by mankind and the climate change it causes. Active workshop participation indicated youngsters’ highly motivated to engage in the environmental protection, with one of the practical issues in terms of creating an ecological household mini guide being successfully solved. Education provided guidance on proper waste disposal, energy and water saving, toxic chemicals usage avoidance, air pollution reduction, etc. Training participants were Valjevo high school students that in turn should conduct peer education within their respective schools during the following month in order to raise young Valjevo citizens’ awareness of recycling importance to protect the environment. The four high schools in Valjevo will receive dedicated post-consumer PET packaging collecting bins, so that the students would have the opportunity to practically apply their knowledge. |
