PET PACKAGING SORTING BINS PLACED IN VALJEVO AS WELL

During the Adventure Fair On Thursday 14 April, “Green Bike" Association promoted new post-consumer PET packaging disposal bins that will soon be placed at several locations in Valjevo. More than 40 post-consumer PET packaging disposal bins are donated by the Greentech Ltd. Novi Sad, member of the Green Group – the largest plastics recycling group operating in South Eastern Europe. Bins to be placed in the major Valjevo parts of Kolubara, Zbratimljeni gradovi, Peti Puk, Novo naselje, Tešnjar as well as on the other locations. In parallel the "Balkan Community Initiatives Fund" supported "Good People" (“Dobri ljudi”) citizens association the will begin fundraising for more bins procurement to be placed near the primary schools, as well as pupils’ environmental protection issues education, because there would be no cleaner and more beautiful city of Valjevo with no bad habits change.

Post-consumer PET packaging, plastic bags and cans require extremely long time to dissolve; meaning that plastic bottles alone will remain in the nature for a few hundred years if they are not properly taken care of. The above waste material is a major planet polluting contributor, recycling of which is a means for pollution mitigation. Proper household post-consumer PET packaging selection implies water-rinsing the inside of PET bottle, bottle-caps removal and squeezing the air from the bottle. Such bottle is much easier to further process, taking up less space in collecting bins, thus increasing their capacity.

Recycling single plastic bottle can save the energy needed by single 60-watt light bulb continuous six hours operation, with up to 88% of energy being saved when plastic is made from post-consumer plastics than from raw material (crude oil/natural gas). The average family of four annually throws out over 40 kg of plastics. Total of 55,000 tons of PET or about 1.2 billion PET bottles is spent in Serbia annually, with only a small portion of it being recycled, while the most of it ends in nature or on the landfills.
